TxARM Model
TxARM Model
The Texas A&M System AGEP Alliance is developing, implementing and studying a new model for advancing dissertating STEM doctoral candidates as they complete their doctorates, enter postdoctoral fellowships, and succeed in faculty positions.
Development
TxARM AGEP engaged in activities that strengthened and further developed the model prior to implementation. Institutions meet monthly as does the leadership team to continue develop aspects of the model as necessary. Team members also attend and participate in conferences to exchange knowledge with experts and similar programs. Implementation
Each of the model’s activities are led and implemented by a Lead Institution. Activities include direct interventions with cohort members such as the Scholarly Learning Communities, and Exposure to Historically Black Colleges and Universities and other activities that help build the program, such as recruitment and evaluation. See below for descriptions of some of these activities.Self-Study
The TxARM Leadership Team regularly engages in activities to study the progress of the model and determine if additional changes to strategy need to be completed. In addition to regular feedback from the program’s internal and external evaluators, the LT also collects feedback from the cohort. For example, the program convened a Cohort Advisory Board to hear directly from those who have participated in the model.Another example of self-study includes the 2019 site visit with the National Science Foundation. Time was allotted to focus on inward reflection and resulted in the creation of these brainstorming boards that led helped the program refine its focus on the model.

TxARM TOOLKIT
The TxARM Toolkit is a resource designed to help AGEP programs, departments, and colleges serving underrepresented minority (URM) students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields incorporate practices, processes, and strategies minimizing feelings of marginalization and isolation experienced by URM students. The TxARM Toolkit is a program resource supporting URM students' completion of doctoral programs and transition to successful postdoctoral fellowships and faculty careers.Click here to visit the TxARM Toolkit.
